Data transfer rates may improve through use of LEDs

German researchers hope to 'narrowcast' data transfer over light as a supplement, or perhaps even a replacement to an increasingly crowded wireless spectrum.

A Fraunhofer team working on devices to allow data transfer via visible light presented their results at the IFA Consumer Electronics trade fair in Berlin this month and they believe these devices will take data-by-light communications one step closer to our offices, homes and workplaces.
