Mandzukic joins Bayern
June 27, 2012Croatian international striker Mario Mandzukic has joined Bundesliga power Bayern Munich on a four-year contract. The move comes off the back of an impressive Euro 2012 performance where he scored 3 goals despite Croatia exiting in the group stage.
Mandzukic, 26, is moving from VfL Wolfsburg for a fee believed to be 13 million euros ($16.2 million). He scored 12 goals for the club last season before falling out with manager Felix Magath.
"We are very happy to be getting a top Bundesliga striker with Mario Mandzukic, who showed his scoring abilities at the Euro," Bayern sports director Christian Nerlinger said.
The Croatian spent only two seasons at Wolfsburg, transferring from Dinamo Zagreb for approximately 7 million Euros in 2010.
Mandzukic joins a strong German forward line at Bayern. Along with German internationals Mario Gomez and Thomas Müller, the Bavarian club signed Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro earlier this summer.
