A collapsing crane killed two people working on the construction site in Sao Paulo at the city's under-construction World Cup stadium. At least one person has been injured. A police spokesperson originally put the death toll at three.

The Itaquerao Stadium was nearly finished but the accident has caused some damage to the structure. The venue - one of 12 around Brazil to be used for the World Cup in 2014 - is to host Brazil's first match of the tournament on the opening day in June.

Brazil is scheduled to hand over all of the new World Cup stadiums to the governing body of world football, FIFA, in December.
