Congo: Three Nations, One Goal - Fighting Poachers

Along with the Amazon, the Congo Basin is of the world’s "green lungs.” Its millions of square kilometers of rain forest are important not just for the global climate, but as a habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. But poachers are taking advantage of the region’s political instability.

The heavily-armed and well-organized poachers focus largely on ivory from forest elephants. A transnational forest protection scheme involving the Central African Republic, Cameroon and the Republic of Congo is trying to protect the animals. Financial support is coming from Germany.
