Bundesliga predictions for Matchday 12
We have our eye on the league ahead of the Bundesliga's 12th matchday of the season this weekend. DW sports editor Stefan Nestler takes a turn at predicting the weekend's scores. What do you think?
A desire to draw
In their last game, Mainz 'stone-walled' their way to a 0-0 draw in Leverkusen, which was rather poor. Freiburg, on the other hand, won three times leading up to the international break. Expect Christian Streich's team to continue their momentum over the international break and to hold Mainz to a draw. Our prediction: 1-1.
BVB to win - but without an own-goal
Borussia Dortmund are slowly working their way out of a crisis. In Paderborn, Dortmund shouldn't need an own goal like last matchday against Mönchengladbach. DW's prediction: 2-1 to Dortmund.
A chronic draw
Both Leverkusen and Hannover want to work their way up the table, but this weekend it's not to be. For the fifth time in the last six meetings, Leverkusen and Hannover will share the spoils. Our prediction: 2-2
Frankfurt to lose for the fifth time!
Those worry-lines on Thomas Schaaf's head might just get a little deeper on Saturday afternoon. We reckon that Eintracht Frankfurt will lose against Borussia Mönchengladbach, for the fifth league game in a row. The Foals are just too strong. Our prediction: 3-1.
The Wolves bite hard
Oh, Matteo! Even under Roberto Di Matteo, Schalke can't get back on their feet in the Bundesliga. Especially not against the hungry Wolves. We expect Wolfsburg's winning streak to continue. Our prediction: 2-1 to Wolfsburg.
All that work for nothing
Hoffenheim stays at the top of the table of teams who provide great entertainment. They're rewarded with two goals and appreciation from the Munich crowd, but they won't get three points. Prediction: 4-2 to Bayern.
Scruffy win
Neither Cologne nor Hertha can rely only on the counterattack, so one of the teams will need to take the game by the scruff of the neck. The newly-promoted Cologne team might struggle a little bit, but with a bit of luck, the Billy Goats will have a narrow win. Prediction: 1-0 to Cologne.
Not just regional neighbors
No other Bundesliga match-up has finished in a draw as often as the north German derby between Hamburg and Werder Bremen. Why should there be a winner this time? Both teams are neighbors at the bottom of the table. And it should stay that way. Our prediction: 1-1
Awful
If it continues like this, Stuttgart are going down. Against Augsburg, Armin Veh won't get the outcome he hoped for. This bad game will end goalless, we suspect. Not a great end to the weekend of football. Our prediction: 0-0.
