Bundesliga Matchday Three in pictures
A happy homecoming for Shinji Kagawa, Cologne keep yet another clean sheet, the return of Ribery and Gladbach batter Schalke.
Return of Ribery
Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery made his season debut on Saturday. Coming on for Mario Götze, who scored Bayern's first goal of the game, Ribery needed just 15 minutes to find his form and put Bayern 2-0 ahead against a quiet Stuttgart.
Badstuber out again
It seemed like a relatively harmless play at the time, but it proved to be very costly for Bayern Munich. Holgar Badstuber came out just before halftime against Stuttgart with what looked like a slight muscle injury. The diagnosis from the team doctor was much worse: a ruptured tendon in his thigh, requiring surgery and a few months out of action.
Head over heels in Dortmund
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came on for Dortmund late in the second half and needed only 2 minutes and 55 seconds before he really flipped out, scoring the final of Dortmund's goals on their way to a 3-1 win over Freiburg.
Back at home
Shinji Kagawa, who left Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United two years ago, was back in black and yellow on Saturday and could not have received a warmer welcome. He gave the love back, too, scoring the second of Dortmund's three goals.
Hahn shows heart
In between scoring two goals and covering nearly every centimeter of the pitch in Gladbach's 4-1 win against Schalke, Andre Hahn still had time to show a 'half heart' symbol after one of his goals. In an interview with Sky after the match, he said he looked up to his girlfriend in the stands - who has the other half.
Okazaki clinches win
Mainz ended their sluggish start to the season thanks largely to striker Shinji Okazaki (right), who scored two of the team's three goals on the way to beating Hertha Berlin 3-1 in the capital.
Wolfsburg salvages point
Hoffenheim appeared to be on track for a win against Wolfsburg, but Ivica Olic - a day before his 35th birthday - can never be counted out. His goal in the 89th minute tied the match at 1-1 and saved a point for Wolfsburg.
Partners in promotion
Last season, SC Paderborn and FC Cologne were both in the second division. The first match-up between them as freshly-promoted Bundesliga teams ended in a 0-0 draw. In a quiet game, it is worth noting that Cologne's clean sheet gives them the distinction of being the only team in the Bundesliga and the second division yet to concede a goal this season.
Slow start for Slomka
Mirko Slomka's Hamburg side came into Sunday's Northern Derby against Hannover with just a single point from a scoreless draw against Cologne and no goals to speak of. After the game, things hadn't improved: still no goals from three games, still just one point, and a new home at the bottom of the table. Hannover's 2-0 put them on third place, even with Bayern Munich and Leverkusen on points.
Do you read me?
A malfunctioning radio may have cost Frankfurt a goal on Sunday: early on, referee Manuel Gräfe was silent as Augsburg's Dominik Kohr tugged Vaclav Kadlec's jersey during a corner kick, keeping Kadlec from chasing a loose ball and taking a shot. The ref said his linesman had tried to signal the foul, but their headsets weren't working. Transmission errors aside, Augsburg's 1-0 win was deserved.
Werder draw with Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen dropped points for the first time this season after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen on Friday night. As entertaining games go, it was hard to top this one - the score was 1-1 at halftime and Sebastian Prödl equalised late for Bremen.
