The 41-year-old former Mainz coach has signed a three-year deal with the club, which will go into effect on July 1, Dortmund announced on Sunday.

Tuchel has taken leave from Mainz until his contract concludes at the end of June.

The new coach succeeds Jürgen Klopp and will take over at BVB following the conclusion of the current German league season.

Borussia Dortmund said the club would not provide any further statements until Tuchel's formal presentation at the end of this season.

Klopp announced Wednesday he would be leaving the club after seven years at the helm as he believed he was no longer the right person for the job.

Klopp was head coach when the club won the 2011 and 2012 German league titles.
