Tuesday was the last bunch of international fixtures in Europe as Belgium moved back to the top of their group with a 1-0 win in Israel.

The Red Devils, who started with Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne, moved level on 11 points with high-flying Wales, but are ahead of the British nation on goal difference.

Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini scored a first-half goal to seal the three points for Marc Wilmots' side that played for a quarter of an hour with ten-man after Vincent Kompany's dismissal.

Belgium has only lost one of their previous 16 matches and their next Euro 2016 qualifier will be a top-of-the-group clash with Wales.

Double Dutch

In a repeat of the 2010 World Cup final, Spain's trip to the Netherlands was top of the bill. The pair had a single Bundesliga representative apiece - Juan Bernat started for Spain and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar led from the front for the Dutch.

Guus Hiddink's team attacked with purpose from the offset and was two goals ahead inside 16 minutes. Wesley Sneijder firstly set up defender Stefan de Vrij before Memphis Depay created a fine team-goal for Ajax's number 10 Davy Klaassen to earn the win for the Dutch.

In Turin, Andros Townsend scored a superb goal to bag a well-earned draw for England away to Italy.

The Italians, fielding a second-string eleven, dominated from the start and took the lead just before the half hour mark through Southampton striker Graziano Pelle.

Even the introduction of Dortmund's Ciro Immobile towards the end couldn't tie up a win for Antonio Conte's side that was punished with 11 minutes left when Townsend netted his third international goal for the Three Lions.

Alaba worries

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich will assess the fitness of David Alaba after the 22-year-old came off with a knee injury in Austria's 1-1 draw at home to Bosnia.

Alaba was replaced after the break following a clash on the touchline, which saw an opposition player fall back on to the Bayern star's left-knee.

The Austrian has already missed more than two months of the season with a knee ligament problem that kept him out over the winter period.

Earlier in the day, Mainz's Shinji Okazaki scored as Japan defeated Uzbekistan 5-1 and South Korea beat New Zealand 1-0.

The United States could only manage a 1-1 draw in Zurich with Valentin Stocker of Hertha Berlin leveling with around 10 minutes to play.

Leverkusen's Hakan Calhanoglu marked his return to international football as his 87th minute strike prevented embarrassment for Turkey who only managed to win 2-1 at minnows Luxembourg.

Elsewhere, Sweden beat Iran 3-1, Estonia drew with Iceland (1-1), Russia fired a blank at home to Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein saw off San Marino.
