Saving the princess

A community group is protesting plans to drain the tiny Princess Vlei wetland in South Africa for construction of a new shopping mall. But this wetland isn't only ecologically valuable, it's also been woven into local folklore.

People who have been living near it for generations believe "the princess" was formed by tears of grief when a noble Khoe girl was abducted by Portuguese sailors long ago.
