Austria/Germany: Tolls Create Traffic Jams

Germany's planned toll on foreign transport trucks promises to bring the country million of euros. But in Austria the move is causing anger because here, as a rule, all drivers are required to pay fees.

That's also the case on the Inntal highway near Kufstein, a route used by many Germans. It used to be a free road, but as of this month a vignette is required. Winter sports enthusiasts from Bavaria who often used the highway to get to ski resorts in Tyrol are now opting to travel through surrounding towns and villages. This has created a huge influx of traffic and traffic jams in small places like Kiefersfelden and Kufstein.
