Andrea Petkovic has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for the second time in four years after a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over 22-year-old Dutch qualifier Kiki Bertens.

Darmstadt-born Petkovic will meet sixth seed Serbian Jelena Jankovic or Italian Sara Errani, ranked 10th, for a place in the semi-finals at Roland Garos.

The German is enjoying her best season since 2011 when she reached the last-eight in three Grand Slam tournaments. It's the fourth time she has reached the last-eight in any of the four major competititons, and she won her third WTA Tour title of the year in Charleston.

The 28th seed recovered after being broken three times in the first set, overcoming her Dutch opponent with seven breaks in the last two sets to reach the quarterfinals.

After more than two hours of play, a flood of errors crept into Bertens‘ game in the last set, allowing Petkovic a 4-2 lead in the final set.

Bertens, ranked 148 in the world, was bidding to become the lowest-ranked woman to reach the quarter-finals since 1983.
