Assisi - Home of a Man Who Inspired the Pope

https://p.dw.com/p/1D84d

His contemporaries called him simply ‘il poverello,’ the little poor man. History acknowledges him as one of the great figures of Christianity: St. Francis of Assisi. He was born in a medieval town in one of the loveliest parts of Italy - on a hill overlooking the Valle Umbria. With its cobbled streets and beautiful churches, Assisi still delights pilgrims today. We accompany a German Franciscan as he guides pilgrims through the town and shows them the sites associated with the popular saint - whom the pope ‘from the end of the world’ has chosen as his role model.
